This study aims to investigate the characteristics and models of long guns most suitable for tactical patrol operations of the First Battalion of the Military Police of Amazonas (PMAM), with emphasis on the Tactical Force. The work analyzes the effectiveness of weapons in different operational environments, such as urban and rural areas, considering the specific climatic and geographical conditions of the Amazon region. The research is basic in nature and uses a qualitative approach, with bibliographic analysis for theoretical foundation and content analysis for data interpretation. Additionally, the study discusses the historical evolution of firearms, highlighting the impact of technological advancements on the improvement of long guns, especially in terms of accuracy, mobility, and ergonomics—essential characteristics for the Tactical Force’s missions. The research also provides recommendations on the selection of weaponry, considering operational needs and the profile of tactical patrols conducted by PMAM. The results aim to provide insights for optimizing the effectiveness of operations, improving public safety, and ensuring the protection of both police officers and the population.
