Abstract

The fattening of male dairy-origin calves represents a promising strategy for increasing profitability in dairy production systems, especially when supported by high–energy density nutritional programs. This study evaluated the productive performance of 10 Jersey calves fed a diet composed of whole corn grain associated with a pelleted supplement during 90 days of confinement. The animals showed consistent and progressive weight gain throughout the period, demonstrating that the diet promoted adequate body development without observable clinical disturbances. The results indicate that whole grain can be efficiently used for the finishing of dairy calves, serving as a viable alternative for increasing their commercial value and contributing to greater economic sustainability of dairy farming.
