Abstract

This article presents a literature review on Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI) and its effects on the reproductive management of cattle, based on studies published between 2020 and 2025. The research problem guiding this investigation is: "How does FTAI contribute to improving the reproductive, genetic, productive, and economic efficiency of Brazilian rural properties?". The general objective is to analyze the positive impacts of the technique on herd performance, while the specific objectives involve identifying the most commonly used hormonal protocols, understanding factors that influence the response of females, examining productive and economic benefits reported in recent literature, and discussing limitations and challenges for its application in different production systems. This research adopted a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical approach, based on thirty national and international studies selected from databases such as SciELO, Scopus, PubMed, and Embrapa, with a time frame from 2020 to 2025. The results show that AI (Artificial Insemination) increases average pregnancy rates to 55%–65%, reduces the calving interval, increases herd uniformity, accelerates genetic gain, and improves economic return per cow/year. Furthermore, it presents significant environmental contributions, such as greater efficiency in pasture use, reduced methane emissions per unit produced, and less need for bulls in natural mating. Thus, it is concluded that AI represents a strategic and essential tool for modernizing Brazilian livestock farming, promoting productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness in the sector.
