Introduction: Increased longevity and, consequently, the incidence of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, has intensified communication challenges in nursing care, especially in the advanced stages of the disease. At this stage, the progressive loss of language and interaction capacity requires specific skills from nurses to ensure humanized, safe, and patient-centered care. Thus, understanding strategies that promote communication becomes essential to improve the quality of care. Objective: To analyze strategies that promote effective communication between nurses and advanced neurodegenerative patients, identifying verbal, nonverbal methods and assistive technologies. Methodology: This is an integrative review conducted in the LILACS and MedLine databases, using descriptors combined with Boolean operators. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five articles published between 2020 and 2025 were selected for analysis. The data were organized and synthesized according to a qualitative approach. Analysis and discussion of results: The analysis of the studies revealed three main axes: communication as a therapeutic and humanized tool; The use of verbal and nonverbal strategies and assistive technologies; and the communication challenges in caring for patients with advanced cognitive decline. The findings highlight that nonverbal communication, active listening, environmental adaptation, and the use of boards and digital resources enhance interaction. They also revealed weaknesses in professional training and in the standardization of records. Conclusion: It is concluded that communication is an essential pillar in the care of advanced neurodegenerative patients, being crucial for safety, comfort, and dignity. Investing in continuous training, team awareness, and the implementation of assistive technologies is fundamental to improving the quality of nursing care.
