Introduction: Cleft palate and labiopalatal clefts compromise newborn suction, making breastfeeding difficult and significantly affecting the mother-infant bond. Beyond physiological challenges, this condition generates insecurity, fear, and distress in families, highlighting the essential role of nurses in guiding safe and effective feeding practices that support healthy child development. Proper professional intervention helps minimize risks and strengthen the breastfeeding process. Objective: To provide guidance on latch and breastfeeding techniques for children with cleft palate, emphasizing the nurse’s role in this process. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review with a qualitative and descriptive approach. Articles published between 2019 and 2025 were analyzed from BVS, LILACS, MEDLINE, BDENF, and Google Scholar. The descriptors “Nursing,” “Breastfeeding,” and “Cleft Palate” were used, following the methodological steps proposed by Mendes, Silveira, and Galvão (2008) for data organization, categorization, and synthesis.Analysis and Discussion: Studies show that cleft palate impairs the ability to create the vacuum necessary for suction, causing choking, nasal reflux, and low weight gain. Nursing guidance enables adapted latch techniques, positioning adjustments, use of specific utensils, and continuous emotional support, preventing early weaning. The nurse’s presence strengthens the emotional bond, enhances maternal confidence, and improves the breastfeeding experience. Although the multiprofessional team is important, the nurse remains the professional closest to the family, providing daily guidance and support. Conclusion: Nursing guidance is essential to ensure safe and effective breastfeeding in newborns with cleft palate, promoting proper child development and humanized care.
