THE ROLE OF THE NURSE IN HIGH-RISK PRENATAL CARE

Introduction: Nursing care during prenatal follow-up is essential, applying protocols that allow early identification of risks. The nurse guides the pregnant woman, detects warning signs, and performs appropriate referrals to reduce maternalfetal risks. Objective: To analyze the role of nurses in high risk prenatal care, highlighting practices, strategies, and challenges. To identify risks, provide guidance to pregnant women, and offer safe and humanized care, promoting better outcomes. Methodology: This study is an integrative literature review on the role of nurses in the care of high-risk pregnant women. A total of 78 articles were identified; after screening and full reading, 15 met the criteria and were included in the synthesis. Analysis and Discussion of Results: Between 2019 and 2024, research on high-risk prenatal care increased, highlighting the value of nursing, the importance of specialization, and the role of primary care, which reduces complications and strengthens patient provider obligations. Conclusion: The role of nurses in high-risk prenatal care is essential to ensuring safe and humanized pregnancy, preventing complications, strengthening pregnant women’s empowerment, and providing comprehensive care reflecting technical, ethical, and social commitment.
