This research aims to explore how population aging affects the sustainability of social security, a highly relevant issue in the current demographic environment. The world's population is aging due to increased life expectancy and lower fertility. This is a problem for social security systems in most parts of the world because of the strain on a growing number of retirees versus workers contributing to the system. The study will analyze the determinants of population aging and its economic and social ramifications, as well as the prospects for social security systems in the future. Its specific objective is to examine the impacts that population aging can have on the sustainability of social security. This raises the following question: How does population aging interfere with the financial sustainability of the Brazilian social security system? This is a statistical-literary analysis, combining quantitative data and theoretical interpretations to understand the impacts of population aging on Brazilian social security. The statistical approach is based on demographic and economic indicators published by official bodies, while the literary analysis is grounded in studies and reflections by authors who discuss the sustainability of the social security system. This integration allows for a broad and well-founded view of the relationship between population changes and the challenges faced by social security in the country, indicating the urgent need for a broad discussion and adoption of solutions that can guarantee the reform and sustainability of social security in Brazil. Finally, it is argued that proactive measures are necessary to address the challenges brought about by the aging population and to promote social protection for future generations.
