Abstract

Albinism is a genetic condition that causes a deficiency in melanin, leading to several problems for those affected, including visual and skin issues. Individuals with albinism tend to be more sensitive to sunlight and therefore easily develop skin diseases. For this reason, they require greater care and continuous monitoring. In addition to skin problems, vision is also compromised, causing photophobia, low visual acuity, nystagmus, and other conditions. The use of glasses and contact lenses is essential. Albinos are often overlooked in society, frequently remaining invisible, and this invisibility affects public health. Albinos are significantly impacted by this problem and need more care and laws that recognize and protect them. Education is also crucial, and bringing these individuals into the discussion helps society to better understand them and overcome stigmas and prejudices.
