The objective of this study is to identify the predominant leadership style among municipal civil servants of the Municipality of São José-SC, who occupy positions of municipal secretaries. For this purpose, the Bass and Avólio (2004) multifactorial leadership questionnaire (MLQ) was used as a data collection instrument, adapted by Seemann (2019), consisting of 36 questions, distributed into nine categories, applied among municipal secretaries, superintendents of foundations and president of municipalities, whose position has the same hierarchical level. From the analysis of the results, it was observed that the predominant leadership style is transactional leadership with an average of 2.57 points, pointing to gwestão by exception (active) with the highest score, around 2.58. Thus, from the
analysis of the results obtained, the need to map the competencies aimed at a more transformative leadership can be indicated as future work, in order to contribute to the provision of increasingly efficient public services.
