Abstract

Computed tomography (CT) is a fundamental imaging examination in the hospital setting, especially in emergency situations, such as in cases of stroke. Its ability to provide rapid and detailed images of the brain has become crucial for early diagnosis and the definition of the most appropriate treatment. Given the severity of stroke, the following question arose: what was the strategic role of the radiology technologist in stroke cases, especially regarding the performance of computed tomography? This study aimed to analyze the importance of the radiology professional in conducting CT scans in stroke cases. Specifically, it sought to understand their role in the diagnostic process, highlight the relevance of their technical and operational knowledge, and demonstrate how their performance influenced the speed and effectiveness of care. The choice of topic was justified by the need to emphasize the strategic function of these professionals in the rapid and effective response to clinical emergencies. The methodology adopted was qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive, based on a literature review. Data collection was carried out using scientific articles, books, and technical materials available in databases such as SciELO, PubMed, and LILACS, prioritizing recent publications that discussed the interface between radiology and stroke. The results showed the direct impact of the radiology technologist's performance on the quality of the images obtained and on reducing the time between care and diagnosis. Furthermore, the study reinforced the need for continuous training of these professionals and specific protocols for emergencies. Thus, the work contributed to the recognition of the technical and strategic importance of the radiology professional in emergency care and to the improvement of hospital care practices.
