Abstract

Melasma is a skin hyperpigmentation disorder characterized by dark spots, being one of the main complaints in dermatological clinical practice. Microneedling has emerged as a promising technique for treating this condition, as it promotes controlled microperforations in the skin, stimulating tissue regeneration and the production of collagen and elastin, in addition to enhancing skin permeability for depigmenting substances. This study aims to analyze the efficacy of microneedling in the treatment of melasma through an integrative literature review. The research was conducted in the PubMed, BVS, and PEDro databases, with a five-year time frame (2020–2025), using the descriptors “Microneedling,” “Melasma,” and “Treatment.” After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, four relevant articles were selected for analysis. The results indicate that microneedling shows greater effectiveness when combined with adjuvant substances, especially tranexamic acid, promoting reduced hyperpigmentation, improved skin texture, and enhanced tissue repair. However, further studies are needed to standardize parameters such as needle depth, session frequency, and drug combinations, as well as to evaluate the impacts of microneedling on users’ quality of life and well-being. Moreover, additional research involving different skin phototypes and ethnic diversity is required to ensure greater safety and longer-lasting results. Therefore, microneedling represents an effective and promising alternative for managing melasma, provided it is performed with proper technique and by qualified professionals.
