Abstract

The Brazilian prison system, which is the scene of serious human rights violations, reproduces and even reinforces all types of violence, subjugation and prejudice suffered by the LGBTQIAPN+ population in society outside its walls. The unhealthiness of prison units, overcrowding and many other issues directly affect the health care of these inmates. This research is a panoramic analysis of the legislative provisions for health care for LGBTQIAPN+ prisoners in Brazil and the obstacles faced in realizing this right. The objective of this study is to highlight the current reality and raise social awareness about the problem, consequently reflecting on the creation of public policies that guarantee overwhelming access to basic health care and other specific needs of this incarcerated population.
