Introduction: Cardiorespiratory Arrest (CRA) is an emergency condition in which an individual experiences a sudden and unexpected cessation of arterial pulse and breathing, both vital functions for human life. The nurse and their team are usually the first professionals to witness a CRA, and it is their responsibility to perform the initial interventions to ensure the patient’s survival until the physician arrives. Therefore, it is essential that they possess the necessary knowledge and skills for early identification and effective interventions. Methodology: This study consists of an integrative literature review. The databases used were: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), using the following descriptors: “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation”; “Nursing”; “Quality of Care”; “Pre-Hospital Care”. Inclusion criteria comprised articles published between 2019 and 2024, in Portuguese, addressing the relevant theme. Exclusion criteria included paid articles, duplicates, articles in English, those not addressing the topic, or published outside the specified period. Results and discussion: The nurse’s role in pre-hospital care is crucial for the effectiveness of CPR, ensuring rapid and safe intervention in cardiovascular emergencies. Their technical competence and leadership skills contribute to the reversal of critical conditions and the prevention of sequelae. Standardized protocols and continuous training improve the quality of care and the resoluteness of interventions. Integration within the multiprofessional team further enhances intervention efficiency. Thus, the presence of qualified nurses is decisive for patient survival and safety Conclusion: A qualified nurse is essential for the effectiveness of pre-hospital CPR, promoting survival, safety, and evidence-based care.
