Domestic violence is a social and legal phenomenon that primarily affects women in vulnerable situations. In Brazil, the enactment of the Maria da Penha Law (Law No. 11,340/2006) represented a significant advance in combating this type of violence, providing, among other mechanisms, emergency protective measures as a way to safeguard the physical, psychological, and moral integrity of victims. Given this scenario, this study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the protective measures provided for in the Maria da Penha Law in combating domestic violence and protecting victims. It was based on a literature review, including scientific articles, books, periodicals, and current legislation on the topic. Data collection was conducted using databases such as Scielo, Google Scholar, and others, from 2020 to 2025. The results, in general, clearly show that the full effectiveness of protective measures still depends on structural and operational factors, such as the training of police and judicial authorities, rigorous monitoring of compliance with orders, and expeditious processing of cases. Current case law reinforces the importance of maintaining protective measures even in the absence of new episodes of violence or formal representation by the victim, demonstrating that judicial decisions must prioritize the concrete risk and the safety of the woman.
