Alimony is one of the most important institutions in Family Law, governed by constitutional and civil principles that aim to guarantee human dignity. In this context, the need-possibility binomial is the fundamental criterion for determining alimony, serving as a parameter for judicial analysis of what is necessary for the recipient and what is possible for the payer. This research aims to analyze the legal, doctrinal, and jurisprudential foundations that support this binomial, as well as discuss the challenges and controversies surrounding its practical application in alimony proceedings. To this end, the methodology adopted was a basic descriptive study with a qualitative and quantitative approach, prioritizing bibliographical and documentary research. Data were collected through laboratory research, using a logical cross-referencing technique to interpret the responses.
