Abstract

The book "Neurological Rehabilitation and Its Aspects" was conceived as a scientific and practical support tool for all those who deal, directly or indirectly, with the consequences of neurological disorders—especially stroke.

Stroke is one of the conditions with the greatest clinical and social impact worldwide, responsible for high mortality rates and also for disabilities that profoundly transform the lives of those who survive. Many people who experience this event face motor, cognitive, and even communication limitations, which compromise not only their independence but also their quality of life.

In this context, neurological rehabilitation is proving to be one of the most active and promising fields in healthcare. It involves different specialties—physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, medicine, and other areas—that, in an integrated manner, seek to provide means of recovery. One of the fundamental concepts in this process is neuroplasticity, the nervous system's ability to reorganize itself and create new connections, even after an injury, promoting functional readaptation.

This book was designed to serve a variety of audiences: healthcare professionals working directly with rehabilitation, undergraduate and graduate students seeking further study, researchers interested in the mechanisms of brain recovery, and even patients and families who wish to better understand this process. The language seeks to balance clarity and scientific rigor, making the content accessible without sacrificing precision.

Throughout the chapters, the reader will find a well-structured trajectory: it begins with the anatomical and physiological basis of the nervous system, moves on to an understanding of the different types of strokes and their repercussions, and continues on to the most relevant therapeutic approaches today. In addition to traditional practices, the book also presents recent advances, such as the use of robotics, virtual reality, and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques—tools that have expanded the possibilities for functional recovery.

But it's not just about the clinical aspect. The book also dedicates space to reflections on the psychological impact of illness, the importance of family and social support networks, and the role of public policies in providing access to continuous, high-quality rehabilitation.

Thus, "Neurological Rehabilitation and Its Aspects" is an invitation to reflection and practice, integrating science, care, and sensitivity. It seeks not only to inform but also to inspire professionals, families, and patients to believe in the capacity for overcoming challenges and the power of interdisciplinary work.

More than a compilation of techniques, this book is a reminder that, in the face of neurological adversities, the union of science and humanity can open new paths to recovery and a fuller life.
