Abstract

Physiotherapy care during the postpartum period is essential for physical rehabilitation and promoting maternal well-being, recognized by public health policies as a fundamental part of comprehensive women's care. The objective of this report was to describe the physiotherapy experience with postpartum women at a Basic Health Unit (UBS) in the southern state of Tocantins. The experience was based on an interview with a physiotherapist who has worked in the field for four years and in Primary Health Care for a year and six months. Care is individualized, based on referrals, with an average of eight monthly appointments. The most common complaints are low back pain, pelvic pain, and urinary incontinence, treated with resources such as Swiss ball exercises, stretching, and mobilization. Despite the lack of specific protocols and structural limitations, significant benefits are observed, such as functional improvement, symptom reduction, and increased self-esteem. The conclusion is that physiotherapy contributes significantly to the humane and qualified care of postpartum women.
