A NARRATIVE REVIEW ON THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND ITS IMPACT ON THE WORK AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF NURSING PROFESSIONALS

The pandemic triggered by SARS-CoV-2 placed the global medical community and health authorities on high alert. Among the frontline professionals during this period were nurses, who, in addition to performing their usual duties in hospital settings, faced numerous challenging situations. In this context, the main objective of this study was to discuss the major impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of life and professional practice of nurses, based on the analysis of scientific articles published on the topic. The narrative review was guided by the following research question: “How did the COVID-19 pandemic impact the professional practice and quality of life of nurses?”. The selected articles highlight the central role of nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing work overload, risk of contamination, and the negative impact on the quality of life of these professionals. It is concluded that urgent investment in improved working conditions and support for the physical and mental health of nurses is essential to enhance their quality of life.
