Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) stands out among cardiovascular diseases due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. This study was developed considering its relevance and had the general objective of contextualizing the holistic approach of nurses when faced with patients with acute myocardial infarction in a clinical emergency. The specific objectives were: a) to conceptualize acute myocardial infarction; b) to characterize the holistic approach in clinical emergencies; and c) to define the role of nursing in acute myocardial infarction. A bibliographic review was conducted for this study, using articles published online. This study allowed us to understand the importance of nurses in the immediate care of AMI victims in a clinical emergency. It was found that a holistic approach guides healthcare actions in general today, and concepts such as humanized care and comprehensiveness are basic premises of any type of healthcare service. These conditions allow us to go far beyond a pathological state and understand the individual more completely, making it possible to recognize particularities that could not be recognized if the focus were only on the disease. Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has a rapid progression that compromises the human organism, leading to death. The literature has highlighted the importance of the nurse in triage in an emergency unit. A properly qualified professional in this sector can identify the most urgent cases early and refer them for further care. The quality of the nurse's work can contribute to the patient's treatment and recovery.
