This article aimed to analyze the sustainability of solid waste management in the municipality of Tefé, Amazonas. The methodological procedures included bibliographic research, document analysis, and the application of semi-structured questionnaires, adopting a qualitative and quantitative approach. The data collection allowed the evaluation of the current waste management scenario and the population's level of knowledge and participation in this process. The results showed that, although the municipality has had an Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan since 2012, the reality reveals significant challenges, such as the absence of an efficient selective collection system, the disposal of waste in open dumps, and low public participation in decision-making processes. Furthermore, the existing projects are punctual and insufficient to meet the environmental, social, and economic sustainability criteria. Survey participants highlighted the urgent need for implementing selective collection, conducting ongoing environmental education campaigns, supporting waste pickers’ cooperatives, and ensuring greater transparency in public management. Therefore, it is concluded that sustainable solid waste management in Tefé depends directly on structural investments, institutional strengthening, and greater community engagement, aligning with the guidelines of the National Solid Waste Policy and the Sustainable Development Goals.
