This study aims to discuss the potential health risks associated with the use of chemical hair relaxers. Considering that the Brazilian cosmetology market has seen a significant increase in the area of hair cosmetics, where the demand for various products aimed at modifying the structure and appearance of hair has been greater. Thus, this work has the following problem: What are the health risks caused by the use of chemical hair relaxers of the hydroxide class in women in Brazil? Analyzing this context, this study was conducted with the general objective of analyzing the necessary information on the health risks caused by the use of chemical hair relaxers of the hydroxide class in women in Brazil. The specific objectives listed were: to report the health damages that can occur due to the incorrect use of the products; to identify the precautions that should be taken to avoid damages caused by the chemical agents present in the formulations of the relaxers and to present studies that prove the risks and damages to health that this class of products can cause to consumers. This study used a qualitative approach and exploratory bibliographic research. The research was conducted in SciELO, LILACS via BVS, Google Scholar, PubMed, as well as in recognized websites and journals and scientific articles. Through the results of this study, it was possible to identify and analyze the main health risks and damages associated with the use of hair relaxers of the hydroxide class. The information obtained provides a better understanding of the potential adverse effects of these products, highlighting the importance of greater awareness among users about the necessary care when using them.
