Abstract

The actions of the Military Police in Brazil, especially with regard to the use of lethal force, represent one of the greatest challenges for the justice system and public safety. The lack of clear and uniform parameters on the limits and criteria for the use of lethal force places military police officers in a vulnerable position, in which quick decisions need to be made under high pressure, often in high-risk contexts. This scenario generates great legal uncertainty for both public safety professionals and society, which is affected by the consequences of these actions. This study seeks to analyze the impact of the lack of specific regulations on the use of lethal force and its relationship with legal security and the effectiveness of police operations. Throughout the research, the importance of defining clear protocols that guide the actions of police officers in risky situations is addressed, as well as the need for adequate psychological support, considering the high levels of stress and emotional problems faced by professionals. Furthermore, the paper proposes reflection on the urgency of a regulatory reform that aligns operational practices with constitutional principles and human rights, ensuring greater predictability and legal certainty in police work. The implementation of standardized protocols and the improvement of police training are essential to reduce abuses and to promote a safer and fairer environment for both officers and the population.
