Historical heritage is part of a society's identity, as well as its characteristics, customs, and behavior, in addition to being a fundamental record for society as a whole. This study was the result of an analysis on the preservation of the Historical Heritage and Memory of the ancient settlement of Canela Island in Palmas-TO, formerly located on the right bank of the Tocantins River. The objective of this study was to analyze the preservation of the Historical Heritage of the ancient settlement of Canela Island in Palmas-TO. The methodology used was bibliographical research of literature, the inclusion criteria were: articles published between 2015 and 2025, and exclusion criteria were: materials prior to 2015, and articles that deviated from the theme. It is concluded that the state adopts public policies for insertion in Canela Island, and seeks to promote balance of environmental conservation and the socioeconomic development of local communities. Thus, it is clear that the actions of some state agencies such as Naturatins and Itertins, combined with initiatives by universities and civil society organizations, have had a positive impact on the preservation of the island and the strengthening of local identities.
