BURDEN AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF MOTHERS WHO CARE FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES

Object: caregivers of children and adolescents with neurological diseases. Goals: to analyze the impact of caregiving activities on physical and emotional health, psychological well-being, social life and financial situation. Methods: a descriptive analysis was carried out with the results of the three questionnaires (characterization, zarit burden interview and quality of life) administered to 57 children. to verify the influence of sociodemographic factors, nonparametric wilcoxon and mann whitney tests were applied, considering significance levels of 5% and 10%, respectively. Results: the study population is composed of female caregivers (100%), aged between 26-35 years old (38.6%), married/common-law marriage (68.4%), and homeowners (48.2%). when comparing the caregivers’ perceptions, significant results (p-value < 0.05) could be verified regarding the different types of domains for residents who were homeowners, as well as for those who received some kind of assistance. Conclusions: it was possible to prove the positive influence of being a homeowner, as well as of receiving assistance, regarding general, physical, and psychological health, social relations and environmental aspects.
