This research discusses the practices of abuse by police authorities in Brazil, which occur in a violent and discriminatory manner, using the State apparatus and affecting, above all, the peripheral and racialized population. It proposes to critically analyze the relationship between militarization and police violence, discussing abusive and authoritarian practices, as well as the violation of human rights. To this end, the article seeks to detail how the historical and political context contributed to the consequences of this police model and its daily activities, bringing reflections for the implementation of a more humane and community-based policing model, which respects due legal process, the Federal Constitution and human rights.
