FLUORIDE VARNISH: A STUDY ON THE USE OF FLUORIDE VARNISH AS A PREVENTIVE AND TREATMENT METHOD FOR CARIES IN CHILDREN

Abstract

The use of fluoride varnish as a preventive method or treatment of caries in children serves as a great ally in the process of remineralization of tooth enamel. In view of this, the use of fluoride varnish is of great value in the prevention and treatment of caries, given that it acts in the DesRe process, preventing or stopping caries. The effectiveness of the varnish can also be compromised depending on some factors. In view of the above, the question is, what factors can hinder the effectiveness of fluoride varnish as a preventive method or treatment of caries in children? The general objective of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of fluoride varnish in the treatment and prevention of caries in children, considering the factors that can neutralize or reduce its effectiveness. The specific objectives seek to understand the process of formation of caries, present the mechanism of action of fluoride varnish and demonstrate the stages of therapy with fluoride varnish. This study consists of a qualitative approach of descriptive, bibliographic and documentary nature. The records for the construction of this work were researched in numerous databases, such as: PubMad, Scielo, Lilacs, articles published in the last 30 years. Articles were identified using the main keywords. A total of 60 articles were found. Of these 60 articles, 27 were considered eligible for the construction of this work. Therefore, this research helped to build an adequate understanding of the use of fluoride varnish as a preventive and therapeutic method for caries in children, contributing to the application of academic knowledge and clinical practice in dentistry.
