This article aims to report and analyze the experience of an internship at a Long-Term Care Facility for the Elderly (LTCF) located in the city of São José dos Pinhais, Paraná. Through the methodology of participant observation, totaling 20 hours of direct monitoring, it was possible to identify emotional and cognitive issues faced by elderly residents, including symptoms of dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease, and neurobehavioral disorders, such as sundowning syndrome. The experience provided deep reflections on the impacts of loneliness, the absence of family ties, and the importance of humanized care. Cases such as that of Mrs. Laurie highlight the suffering generated by emotional disconnection. The analysis also considers the performance of the multidisciplinary team and the institution's commitment to the principles of the Elderly Statute. It is concluded that comprehensive care, which encompasses both the physical and emotional dimensions, is essential to promote dignified aging. The study also highlights the need for coordination between family, state and society to guarantee the rights and well-being of the elderly population.
