This article sought to analyze the importance of pharmacists in Basic Health Units (UBS) and their impact on the quality of community health care, investigating pharmaceutical care activities, the role of these professionals in medication management – including selection, acquisition, storage and distribution – and their participation in health education actions to promote the rational use of medications. An integrative literature review was conducted, consulting the Google Scholar, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Lilacs databases, with studies dated from 2014 to 2025. The main results indicate that pharmacists play a crucial role in UBS, ensuring access to medications, providing quality pharmacotherapy, with an emphasis on risk groups, providing guidance on the rational use of inputs and actively participating in their management. It was concluded that the presence of a pharmacist is essential for health promotion, patient education and optimization of medication management, resulting in better adherence to treatment and higher quality of care provided.
