This scientific article aims to conduct a thorough study of the current conditions of places of punishment in Brazil that, in many cases, resemble true 'Medieval Dungeons' and, from there, propose efficient alternatives to mitigate the severe human rights violations occurring within prisons, as well as to reduce the high rates of criminal recidivism, often generated by the conditions to which the sentenced individuals are subjected in the current model. The research aims to highlight how these methods can provide faster and more satisfactory solutions compared to the traditional model of prison management, achieving the long-desired rehabilitative goals of the Penal Execution Law and consequently reducing high crime rates. The work concludes with recommendations to address the chaotic state of the penitentiary system, focusing on the humani[1]zation of punishment and seeking to restore the dignity of individual instead of just punishing him.
