Cleft lip and palate is a congenital malformation that affects the lip and palate structures, compromising essential functions such as chewing, speech, and facial aesthetics. This study aims to highlight the importance of dentistry within the multidisciplinary approach to treating patients with this condition, emphasizing its functional, emotional, and social relevance. A literature review was conducted using scientific articles, theses, and dissertations published between 2015 and 2024, retrieved from databases such as Google Scholar, SciELO, PubMed, and BVS. The keywords used were: Cleft Lip and Palate, Dentistry, Oral Rehabilitation, Public Health. Studies published in Portuguese and English that directly addressed dental treatment in patients with cleft lip and palate were included. The findings indicate that the dentist’s role, integrated with a multidisciplinary team, is essential from childhood through adulthood. Technological advances, such as 3D modeling and the use of biomaterials, have significantly improved aesthetic and functional outcomes. However, regional disparities in access to diagnosis and treatment remain, highlighting the need for more equitable public health policies.
