PUBLIC SAFETY IN THE CITY OF MANAUS: A CONTEMPORARY ANALYSIS OF CRIMES IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

The present article aimed to understand public safety in the city of Manaus, especially regarding public transportation, the impacts caused to users who are victims of thefts inside buses, as well as public policies and state measures to combat criminality. The methodology adopted in this research has a qualitative approach, of a descriptive nature, based on bibliographic sources such as scientific articles, technical reports, websites, and established norms. The article is structured into two topics for better development of the proposed subject. The first topic will address public security in a general scope, covering current legislation, the origin of criminality, as well as public insecurity at both national and local levels. The second topic is dedicated to the public transportation system of the city of Manaus, discussing the precariousness and insecurity of public transport, the impacts of criminality on the system, and the public policies and measures taken by the State regarding this issue.
