THE IMPORTANCE OF FORENSIC DENTISTRY IN THE FORENSIC CONTEXT

Human identification is essential in forensic contexts, especially in situations where other methods of recognition are not viable. Dental arch analysis stands out due to the resistance of teeth to physical, chemical and biological agents, being crucial in mass disasters, accidents and criminal investigations. This article aims to analyze the main methods of identification through the dental arch, based on a literature review carried out in the PubMed, Scielo and BVS databases, between x and x. Among the main challenges identified are the degradation of teeth due to environmental factors, the lack of dental records and the need for specialized training of experts. Despite the limitations, identification through the dental arch remains an essential tool, reinforcing the importance of developing standardized protocols and investing in technology and professional training in the field of forensic dentistry.
