Radiotherapy is a fundamental therapeutic modality in the treatment of cancer, used in different stages of the disease and in multiple anatomical locations. Its benefits are undeniable, especially in the locoregional control of tumors, in improving symptoms and in increasing survival. However, the adverse effects of radiation, both immediate and late, can significantly compromise the quality of life of cancer patients. This article aims to perform a narrative analysis on the main effects of radiotherapy and its physical, psychological and social repercussions. In addition, it discusses the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and recent technologies in the management of side effects, seeking to promote more effective, humanized and patient-centered care.
