This study aimed to identify the proportions of sickness absenteeism and its associated factors among nursing professionals working in urgency and emergency sectors, in both national and international contexts. This is an integrative review, conducted in February 2019, using the BDENF, LILACS, Portal CAPES, and MEDLINE databases, selecting texts in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, without restriction on publication year, in order to expand the search. Six articles and one dissertation were selected: six cross-sectional and one longitudinal; all developed in Brazil. Five studies included the emergency service along with other sectors, and only two focused primarily on investigations directly in the emergency care unit. The prevalence and incidence of sickness absenteeism ranged from 18.09% to 65.82%. Regarding associated factors, only one study analyzed them exclusively in urgency and emergency sectors, highlighting the single legal regime employment relationship and night shift work. Among the diseases leading to absence, disorders of the muscular system and connective tissue were the most frequent. High prevalence and incidence were observed, as well as a scarcity of studies addressing urgency and emergency units and the nursing team, evidencing a scientific gap and a certain neglect of nursing in these specialized health sectors.
