Composite resin dental veneers are an aesthetic alternative that requires little or no wear of the natural tooth structure. Inadequate adjustments compromise hygiene and cause inflammation, so periodic care and professional guidance are essential to maintain the integrity of the periodontium and the durability of these veneers. The objective of this study was to conduct a narrative literature review that emphasizes the main periodontal complications that may arise from the inadequate execution of veneers, and highlights the impasses associated with the technique used, unsatisfactory adaptation and deficiency in professional skills. The methodological structure of the research was carried out through a review of scientific literature. Scientific articles in English and Portuguese, between 2011 and 2024, were selected from the following databases: BVS, Scielo and PubMed, as well as books. Initially, 48 references were gathered, of which 26 comprised the final selection. The criteria adopted for exclusion were articles and books released before 2011, in addition to works that did not provide free access and those that discussed dental veneers in a comprehensive manner. The literature highlights the importance of knowledge of periodontal tissues, precise clinical technique and individualized planning for the aesthetic and functional success of treatments with composite resin veneers.
