Polyamorous families challenge the traditional concept of family and raise ethical and legal questions. In Brazil, legal recognition of these families as family entities is a necessity, as current legislation does not fully address their specificities and rights. Furthermore, recognizing affective diversity promotes respect for human dignity and the plurality of ways of loving and forming a family. The aim of this article was to discuss, through qualitative research based on a bibliographic and documentary survey, the ethical responsibility of affection in polyamorous relationships and to analyze the need for legal recognition of these families as family entities in Brazil. The results highlight the importance of legally recognizing and protecting polyamorous families, guaranteeing them rights and legal protection. The analysis of the evolution of the concept of family reveals the need to adapt Brazilian laws to reflect the diversity of family arrangements present in contemporary society. The investigation into the ethical principles involved in emotional relationships highlights the importance of respecting the autonomy and dignity of the individuals involved in polyamorous relationships. It concludes that legal recognition of polyamorous families as family entities is fundamental to guaranteeing equal rights and promoting a more inclusive and respectful society.
