This article sought to highlight the importance of pharmaceutical care in the Unified Health System (SUS), highlighting the essential role of pharmacists in promoting health and improving patients' quality of life. To achieve this objective, a bibliographical research was conducted based on studies and scientific articles available in databases such as BIREME, SciELO, LILACS and BVS. The methodology consisted of analyzing publications that address pharmaceutical interventions, medication dispensing services and the integration of pharmacists in family health teams. The results indicate that the role of pharmacists in the SUS directly contributes to the rational use of medications, reduction of errors related to pharmacotherapy and improvement of clinical outcomes. Despite the proven benefits, the study also points out significant challenges for the effective implementation of pharmaceutical care, such as the lack of structure, human resources and institutional recognition. It is concluded that strengthening pharmaceutical work in health units is essential to consolidate safer, more effective and patient-centered care, being a key element in the qualification of care in the SUS.
