Asthma is one of the main respiratory diseases affecting the lower airways and stands out as one of the most prevalent diseases around the world. This study aimed to identify the epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized due to asthma between 2013 and 2023 in the state of Paraná, Brazil. This is an epidemiological, observational, and descriptive study that used secondary data provided by the Brazilian Unified Health System's Informatics Department (DATASUS). During this period, there were a total of 65,232 hospitalizations, with the pediatric population being the most prevalent, accounting for 39.9% of the cases, which contrasts with the mortality data, as the elderly population had the highest death rate. Regarding sex, a higher prevalence was observed among females after the age of 15, with both the length of hospital stay and number of deaths reflecting this trend. In terms of race, the highest hospitalization rates were among white patients, followed by those of mixed race (pardo). Therefore, understanding the epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized for asthma in the state of Paraná is extremely important for supporting effective prevention and treatment strategies for individuals with this chronic condition, with the goal of reducing hospitalization rates among asthma patients.
