This study analyzes hospital admissions related to cardiogenic shock in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro between 2008 and 2024, highlighting the epidemiological impact of cardiogenic shock. Cardiogenic shock is characterized by low cardiac output, tissue hypoperfusion, and progressive organ dysfunction, often resulting from acute myocardial infarction and associated with high mortality rates. Using epidemiological data from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), this study observed 3,179 admissions for the treatment of cardiogenic shock during the reported period, with 2019 being the year with the highest number of admissions and 2024 the year with the highest expenditure. There were 539 admissions in the public sector, 8 in the private sector, and 2,632 were classified as unknown. The mortality rate observed during the period is high, with most years showing rates above 90%. The study points to potential weaknesses in reporting and reinforces the severity of the cases, suggesting the need for improvements in the management of this condition.
