The variation between floods and droughts is a defining feature of the Amazon region, influencing various economic activities. However, this seasonality also brings challenges. This article reflects on the drought in the state of Amazonas in the years 2023 and 2024, with the aim of analyzing the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the drought on communities in the Tarumã Basin, contributing to an understanding of the effects of water scarcity and assessing local sustainability and the effectiveness of public policy actions, proposing recommendations for improvements and practical solutions. To this end, an exploratory- descriptive research method was used, complemented by photographic records, which served as the basis for a case study. The results showed that the historic drought that hit the municipalities of Amazonas between 2023 and 2024 demonstrated the urgent need for coordinated actions to support isolated riverside and indigenous communities. The conclusion is that the development of structuring public policies that meet the real needs of the people of the Amazon must be a priority. To this end, it is essential to pay close attention to the particularities of each territory, to map the most vulnerable areas and, above all, to actively listen to the communities affected. Only in this way will it be possible to demand efficient and inclusive public policies from the state, ensuring that their rights are guaranteed and their realities respected.
