Elder abuse is a growing issue in Brazil, especially in the post-pandemic context, which has highlighted the vulnerabilities of this population. Despite legal advancements with the creation of the Elderly Statute, abuse remains an alarming reality, and often, victims are exposed to mistreatment within their own family environment. The aim of this article is to analyze the increase in elder abuse reports and evaluate the effectiveness of the protection networks implemented, as well as to identify legal limitations and challenges in the reporting process. The methodology used involved the analysis of data from the Specialized Police Station for Crimes Against the Elderly (DECCI) in Amazonas, a literature review of the Elderly Statute, and the actions of institutions responsible for protection, as well as studies on abuse and underreporting of cases. The results indicate a significant increase in abuse reports, with physical violence and neglect being the most common. The discussion points out that, despite legal advances, the legislation still has flaws, such as lenient penalties and an insufficient reporting system. It is concluded that strengthening support networks and implementing an integrated approach is essential to ensuring the protection and dignity of the elderly.
