This article sought to describe the relationship between modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors and the incidence of lung and pancreatic cancer in Brazil. To this end, a descriptive literature review with a qualitative approach was conducted, analyzing scientific literature related to the topic. The results highlight the importance of nursing in promoting self-management of health, enabling patients to regularly monitor important indicators such as blood pressure, glucose and weight, in order to reduce exposure to preventable risk factors. It is concluded that, despite advances in the understanding of the factors associated with cancer, there are still important challenges, especially regarding unequal access to health resources. It is recommended that future research deepen these issues, contributing to the improvement of cancer prevention and treatment practices.
