Syphilis is the most prevalent curable Sexually Transmitted Infection in the world and has been a public health problem for centuries. Gestational syphilis is a condition in which a woman carrying the bacterium Treponema Pallidum becomes pregnant and becomes a vector for the passage of the disease through the transplacental route to conception. This infection of the fetus, known as gestational syphilis, causes several harms to its development, and can even cause abortion. No newborn infected during pregnancy or birth has congenital syphilis, which continues to harm the child's life until effective treatment with the standard medication, penicillin. In this study, we evaluated cases of gestational syphilis in the state of Paraná between 2014 and 2023, with the aim of evaluating whether there are standards of care for the disease based on the age, education and macro-region of residence of affected patients. These data were found on the TABNET-DATASUS platform, which stores information made available by the Paraná Notifiable Diseases Information System.
