Abstract

This study aims to examine the existing literature on the predisposing factors of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the most effective therapeutic interventions for managing this condition. PTSD is a significant psychiatric disorder that can develop following exposure to traumatic events, such as accidents, assaults, natural catastrophes, or war experiences. It is characterized by persistent symptoms of re-experiencing the traumatic event, avoidance of trauma-related situations, negative alterations in cognitions and emotional state, and hyperarousal. PTSD can cause profound distress and functional impairment in the lives of affected individuals. The review of literature concerning therapeutic interventions for PTSD reveals a range of approaches that have proven effective in reducing symptoms and enhancing patients' quality of life. Genetically, susceptibility to PTSD has been extensively studied, with evidence indicating that individuals with a family history of mental disorders are at an increased risk of developing PTSD.
