Keywords:
Vulnerability. Serial killers. Research.Abstract
The criminal profile is crucial in the investigation of crimes committed by serial killers, serial killers and massacres. Analyzing the behavior of these individuals helps to understand their motivations and characteristics. From a theoretical review, it is possible to identify patterns of behavior, such as the modus operandi and the signature of these criminals. While serial killers can be organized or disorganized, their motivations vary, including power, control, and revenge. Factors such as child abuse, psychological trauma, and social influence also play an important role in shaping the criminal profile. This multidisciplinary study involves criminology, psychology and sociology, helping to understand the causes and prevent future crimes.
Chapter 1, "The Criminal Profile", offers a perspective on the subject of serial killers and their characteristics, differentiating them from common murderers and mass murderers. It is noteworthy that, despite looking like normal people, serial killers have disturbing psychological traits and often hide their true identity. The text also discusses the difficulties in clearly defining what a serial killer is, based on the FBI's definitions and criticisms of them. The serial killer's main motivation is control over his victims, unlike ordinary killers, who act out of revenge. Finally, the text differentiates serial killers from mass murderers, who commit homicides in a short period of time, usually driven by emotions and without the same sexual motivation.
In Chapter 2, entitled "The Serial Killer", we will explore the causes and characteristics of serial killers, differentiating them from psychotics and highlighting that, in most cases, they are not crazy people, but psychopaths. While psychotics live in a delusion, psychopaths have a full sense of reality, but are unable to feel empathy and behave in a cold and calculating way. The text also explores the possible origins of this behavior, including child abuse, genetic factors, chemical imbalances in the brain, trauma, and social influences. In addition, it differentiates serial killers from mass murderers, who usually commit suicide after the attacks.
In Chapter 3, "Crime scene and criminal assessment" The text highlights the importance of preserving the crime scene during an investigation, as any change can compromise the analysis of the evidence and the conclusion of the case. He details the relevance of identifying the organization of the crime, the modus operandi and the signature of the murderer, which help to understand the behavior of the crime. The organization reflects the personality of the killer, with the organized serial killer being more careful with the scene, while the disorganized one is more careless. The modus operandi is the pattern used by the killer, which can evolve over time. The signature is a psychological characteristic of the killer, usually manifested by a specific type of violence or desecration, and which remains constant in his crimes.
