The present article aims to analyze the use of benzodiazepine anxiolytics in the treatment of postpartum depression in pregnant women in Brazil through a bibliographical review. Postpartum depression, characterized by mood changes, anxiety, and a sense of failure, impacts the well-being of both mother and baby. The study utilized databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect to identify relevant publications from 2014 to 2024. The main benzodiazepines studied were Diazepam, Alprazolam, Clonazepam, and Lorazepam, with an emphasis on their adverse effects and safety for infants. Non-pharmacological therapeutic alternatives were also addressed. The results highlight the impact of anxiolytics in treatment, the risks associated with their use, and the need for multidisciplinary interventions to minimize complications. It is concluded that although benzodiazepines are effective in managing postpartum depression, their use should be cautious, prioritizing maternal and child safety.
