Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive respiratory condition characterised by chronic obstruction of the airways and is responsible for the impairment of the bronchi and/or alveoli. The nursing team plays a key role in this condition, and their ability to identify and interact with these individuals stands out. This study aimed to analyse the approaches and challenges faced by nursing staff in caring for patients with COPD and to assess how these practices impact on promoting patients' quality of life. In addition to identifying the main nursing interventions used in the management of COPD; identifying the challenges faced in caring for patients; and proposing recommendations for improving nursing practice in the care of these patients. Ten scientific articles on the subject were analysed, using bibliographical research with a qualitative approach, which enabled two categories to be identified: the most frequent causes, diagnosis and treatment of COPD and quality of life, prevention and nursing care. It was concluded that nursing is crucial in the management of COPD, promoting quality of life through technical, emotional and educational care. Despite the challenges, such as overload and lack of resources, it is necessary to invest in the continuous training of professionals and team integration in order to optimise care and improve clinical outcomes.
