Down Syndrome (DS), characterized by the presence of three copies of chromosome 21, causes craniofacial changes that directly impact the oral health of its carriers. In this sense, this article aims to analyze these influences and their implications in dental practice, aiming to develop guidelines that consider the specificities of the patients. The methodology adopted consisted of a literature review, examining the main craniofacial and dental alterations associated with DS. The research emphasized the need for a dental approach adapted to the functional and anatomical limitations of individuals with DS. The results indicated that individuals with the syndrome exhibit specific characteristics that require specialized dental care. The analysis revealed the importance of early and preventive dental care, as well as the active participation of caregivers in promoting oral health. The multidisciplinary approach was identified as fundamental to ensuring comprehensive care. In conclusion, the study highlights the complexity of the dental needs of individuals with Down Syndrome, emphasizing the importance of personalized and early interventions that aim not only for oral health but also for social inclusion and the quality of life of these patients. Coordination among different areas of health is essential for a humanized and effective care.
