Violence against women is a reflection of power relations historically constructed through inequalities between men and women. Therefore, it can be said that gender violence originates in patriarchal power and in the reproduction of everyday machismo perpetuated over the centuries, obstetric violence stands out as a specific type of violence against women, having psychological abuse as its greatest impact. Objective: To evaluate the consequences of obstetric violence that occurs in the hospital setting and the psychological damage caused to women during and after childbirth. Material and Methods: This is a literature review study of scientific production with an exploratory qualitative approach, listing the factors that are related to the psychological consequences of obstetric violence. Results: Following the pre-established criteria, 245 articles were found in the VHL, integrated with BDENF, LILACS, GOOGLE SCHOLAR and SCIELO. After exploratory reading, 40 articles were chosen for selective reading and 20 papers were selected. Conclusions: The urgency of policies that guarantee women's right to comprehensive health and humanized childbirth, reducing negative impacts and respecting their autonomy, is highlighted. These measures minimize psychological violence and promote a more welcoming and safe service.
