Domestic violence against women has shown alarming rates and many of them seek a health unit. Violence interferes with women's rights, harming their independence, thus damaging their self-esteem and reducing their quality of life, leading to terror and fear among women, generating consequences for their personal, family and social structure. Taking this assumption into account, the objective of this study was to analyze the perception and performance of nurses in the face of suspected and/or confirmed cases of violence against women. To this end, a literature review was carried out, with a survey of the databases available on the internet: Lilacs, Scielo, Reben through the descriptors: domestic violence, violence against women and nursing care. They were selected according to their proximity to the research objective. It is concluded that it is essential that there is support from health professionals, since they are practically the first to have contact with such a problem, in order to offer services that include reception, support, connection, notification and appropriate referral of these women who are susceptible to physical, psychological and emotional consequences.
